📰 High River Becomes a Holiday Movie Set During Santa Parade
High River is bracing for four days of film crews in town from December 4–6 as Netflix shoots The Bodyguard, a new holiday rom-com starring Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki. Crews will be working in multiple locations around downtown, including 7 Avenue SW, Macleod Trail, and near the Museum of the Highwood, with some scenes using prop weapons and simulated gunshot sounds. Filming will overlap with the 40th Annual Santa Claus Parade on Friday, December 5 at 5 p.m., adding some unexpected “Hallmark movie” sparkle to an already beloved event. Residents are asked to expect intermittent traffic disruptions and extra lighting and camera setups along the parade route, but the Town says access and safety will be maintained throughout the weekend.

📰 Charity Check Stop Returns for 18th Year in Okotoks
Okotoks’ annual Charity Check Stop is back on Friday, December 5 from 2–5 p.m. along Milligan Drive in front of the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Local emergency services will be “pulling over” vehicles in a friendly way to collect cash, gift cards, and non-perishable food in support of Rowan House Society and the Okotoks Food Bank. Organizers say the long-running event consistently raises thousands of dollars and fills crucial gaps for families facing domestic violence and food insecurity over the holidays. Drivers can expect brief delays but plenty of holiday cheer, flashing lights, and waving first responders rather than tickets. If you’ve been looking for an easy way to give back this season, this is one of the simplest—and most visible—options in town.

🌟 Light Up Diamond Valley & the Library’s First “Light Up Daytime”
Diamond Valley is gearing up for its big Light Up celebration on Saturday, December 6, with festivities stretching from daytime family fun to evening fireworks. The new “Light Up Daytime” event at Sheep River Library runs 1–3 p.m., featuring a storyteller by the fireplace, cookie-decorating, hay wagon rides, and a fire pit to warm up between activities. Later in the day, Family Shinny at the Scott Seaman outdoor rink (3:30–4:30 p.m.) leads into the main Light Up Diamond Valley street celebration from 5–9 p.m., with Foothills Lions & Energy Co-op hosting and fireworks planned for about 8:30 p.m. It’s a true all-ages community collaboration, with local volunteers, service clubs, and businesses creating that small-town, “everyone’s downtown” holiday feeling all day long.

FRIDAY, DEC 5

• 🎄 Nature Fridays: Snowflakes – Okotoks — 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Okotoks Environmental Education Centre. Drop in to explore the science and beauty of snowflakes with hands-on nature activities for kids and families.

• ✉️ Letters to Santa (Final Day) – Okotoks Public Library — Ongoing through Fri, Dec 5, Okotoks Public Library. Kids can write and send their letters to Santa using free templates, envelopes, and postage before the program wraps up for the season.

• 🐮 FFGA Christmas Party & “Legacy of Innovation” – Okotoks — 3:30 p.m., Best Western Plus Okotoks. The Foothills Forage & Grazing Association hosts an afternoon producer panel, followed by cocktails and a Christmas dinner celebrating local ranchers and regenerative agriculture.

• 🎁 9th Annual Christmas Market – The Saskatoon Farm — 12–7 p.m., The Saskatoon Farm (east of Okotoks). Browse 200+ local vendors, festive décor, and treats at this huge indoor–outdoor country Christmas market; kids 10 and under get in free.

• 🎄 High River Winter Market – High River — 2–9 p.m., Highwood Centre, High River. Inclusion Foothills’ annual winter market brings local makers, food vendors, and holiday gifts under one roof for an evening shop.

• 🎅 High River Santa Claus Parade – High River — 5 p.m., downtown High River. The 40th Annual Santa Parade lights up the streets—with Netflix film crews also capturing scenes for The Bodyguard, so you might spot a camera or two alongside the floats.

• 🎁 9th Annual Christmas Market – The Saskatoon Farm — 9 a.m.–5 p.m., The Saskatoon Farm. Day two of the huge Christmas market with local artisans, food, and festive photo ops in a rustic farm setting.

• 🎄 High River Winter Market (Day 2) – High River — 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Highwood Centre. Shop local crafters, food, and gifts at this family-friendly indoor market.

• 🎄 Christmas Market at the Field House – Okotoks/Region — 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Regional Field House. A one-day Christmas market with vendors, sports-family gifts, and activities at the field house.

Expect a wintry weekend: Friday looks cold and snowy with a few more centimeters expected, Saturday stays cold but fairly bright, and Sunday moderates a bit with highs near freezing and more cloud than sun. Dress for windchill if you’re heading to parades, Light Up events, or outdoor rinks, and watch for slick roads around evening festivities.
